When I built my darkroom I drywalled only the lower 4 feet and put 1/4 inch peg board everywhere else.

This allows you to hang and store all kinds of stuff (you can even buy pegboard shelf supports to make shelves) and still have great flexibility.

It is great to hang tanks, reels, graduates, etc to dry and store.

I simply painted the board with very good water proofing on wet side and normal paint on dry side.
