Darkroom Furniture: Wall cupboards
I cheated big time here, sorry, I bought the wall cabinets from Home Base. I couldn't help it, after building the base cabinets myself, when I saw wall cabinets the exact size I wanted for $39.99, I couldn't pass them up. I couldn't make them for that! ToolsMaterials
Installation
For information about building cabinets, check out cabinet carpentry at the library, there are lots of books on the subject, I found a couple at used book stores too. You can see how I built the base cabinets myself, too. OK, knowing that I purchased these cabinets, this page, then, will try to explain how to hang them up.

Tools
- Screw driver - I strongly recommend a drill with screwdriver bits
- Carpenters Level - if you don't have one, borrow one, you really need it for darkroom tables and such, not so much for this project
Materials
- Wall cabinet
- 2x4 or 1x4 scrap lumber to run the length of the cabinet
- Screws, 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" in length
Installation
- Determine where the bottom of the cabinet should be on the wall
- Identify the stud locations
- Screw the scrap lumber to the wall, one screw at each end, so that the top of the scrap is where the bottom of the cabinet will go. Try to put the screws where they will not show after removing the scrap, or you'll need to spackle and paint afterward. However, the screws must go into studs. (This step makes putting up wall cabinets possible for one person!) Make sure the top of this piece of wood is level!
- Put the cabinet up on the wall, put screws in the back of the cabinet at the top and bottom, everywhere there are studs
- Remove the scrap of wood
- Spackle and paint if necessary
