Building a Darkroom: Building codes

Disclaimer

Warning ! Just because you read it here, doesn't make it safe. Nor does it make it legal.

I suggest you get a copy of your local building codes to see what you can and can't do legally. In many places, for example, on the wall wiring is not legal, even though it might be easier to do, and you might consider it safer.

If you do not pay attention to local building codes, and have an inspector find your darkroom by accident, he or she could require you to tear it down and re-build it.

Play it safe, get the book, read it, do it the way your local government wants it done.

Live in Britain, we don't have inspectors!

This is one of the best guides to building a darkroom I have managed to find... However, don't live in Britian. Or if you do anyway, don't EVER eat in a restaurant there. Not only are there no building code inspectors (allowing unsafe buildings to be used as domociles, but which I doubt), but also there are no FOOD inspectors. GB has one of the highest rates of death from assorted food poisonings in the non-third world.

I don\'t know where you ate but I\'ve lived and eaten in Britain for over 30 years and haven\'t had any problems! The US however is a completely different story!
